#30 Weak point in posing

Hello, everyone.

I'm uri, a yoga instructor.

Do you have any pose that you are not good at?

Navasana and Virabhadrasana III.

These poses have something in common that hip joint is power point. Furthermore, the key point in posing is to use the hip joint motion such as flexion/extension, abduction/adduction.

【flexion/extension】enables us to walk normally and move our feet straight forward and backward.

【abduction/adduction】has the role of keeping our knees directions forward.

Which means, these poses require…

❶How smooth the hip joint move

❷The condition of the legs (The direction of knees), whether you can keep your feet to max extent.

These poses require to bend our hip joints by 90°. You need to stand by each leg with the least amount of strength.

The muscles which relate to these motion are…⚫︎flexion→iliac muscle

⚫︎extension→gluteus maximus、

⚫︎abduction,adduction→gluteus medius

My hip joint muscle gets wobbling by taking these pose and it's got muscle ache. My challenge is to enhance my hip joint muscle.

I'm also interested in this sentence.

"The kinds of hip joint muscle besides gluteus maximus, like hamstrings and adductors, become the longest when hip joints are bended."

Above three poses, they require the hip joint bend. So if we think abdominal strength as the strength direction, legs can be interpreted as the moment arm. (if I misunderstand, let me know about it.)

The longer the moment arm (=the length of leg)is, The easier we can balance the body weight.

In short, it's important to keep our legs straight with hamstrings and adductors extend.

◻️The reason of weak point

The poses which you don't like sometimes tell you your weak points. I'm gradually getting better at posing.

One of the most interesting things is that the studies about muscle work and relations are still under discussion.

I think it's a good idea to enjoy your improvement through practicing and watching yourself.
